It's also, frankly, just plain wrong. Just because a 4 bedroom house has 4 bedrooms doesn't mean people are renting those bedrooms out at that price.
The actual average rent for a 1-bedroom in San Jose is $2,150 / month which is $25,800 / year.
It's a shame this author has so many basic mistakes in their post as otherwise it is a valid discussion.
- applieddivinity 5y agoAverage rent for a 1-bedroom is not a good deal. It's much cheaper to rent a single room in a larger house or apartment. 4500 per month, divided by 4 rooms is $1125/month, not $1200. You can book the whole house and fill it with friends. But look, it really doesn't matter if you're paying $1125 or $1200, that has approximately 0 impact on the actual conclusions of this post.
- coderintherye 5y agoThe post which is about living the life you want to live has 0 relevance to the living costs and how you live and who you live with. The fact is that the average people are paying to live in the Bay Area is actually 2-4x what the author is claiming they pay. If you think that has no impact on the conclusion of the post then either you don't or have never lived here or you are delusional.
