They are testing against E Coli which is an easy target. My understand was always that E Coli is on the order of 1 minute.
If you are into camping you might be thinking of things like Giardia - much harder to kill.
- engineer_22 5y agoCl cant kill Giardia oocysts, they have to be filtered out.
- slownews45 5y agoChlorine is effective against Giardia. It requires longer exposure periods generally and can be temp dependent (ie, 1 hr vs 1 minute).
- engineer_22 5y agoYes, that's right. Cryptosporidium, another common parasite, is much more resistant to Chlorine
