Gettr, the latest pro-Trump social network, is already a mess
- aranchelk 5y ago> hackers quickly leveraged Gettr’s API to scrape the email addresses of more than 85,000 of its users. Six months after reports of Parler's API-based data breach, you'd think it would have at least been on their minds.
- a3n 5y ago> Some of Gettr’s copy is stilted and strange, including the boast that it’s a “non-bias” social network that “tried the best to provide best software quality to the users, allow anyone to express their opinion freely. I can't decide if that sounds vaguely Russian, or just confused and under-literate.
- prewett 5y agoSounds more like Chinese-English to me, which would suggest that the development was outsourced to Chinese developers. I think a "Trumpy" social-network written by outsource Chinese developers would be the ultimate irony!

- rvz 5y agoTypical API scrappers, this also happened to Clubhouse, Parler, and LinkedIn, like I said months ago when Clubhouse's API was scraped. [0] Perhaps they used integer-based IDs and the hackers enumerated through the ID numbers, just like Clubhouse. Who knows. Probably also has a lack of rate limiting and other basic security defences; on launch. No different to the others. > But given Gettr’s mounting early woes, the sketchy Twitter clone’s moment in the sun might already be coming to an end. I would wait to see if they survive the year first before calling it TechCrunch. Gab was supposed to be wiped off of the internet, yet after several breaches later they are still alive and become even more resilient. If you want Gettr to go away, do not give them the coverage on launch. It's more effective to report them sunsetting or shutting down than it is to report their launch day errors and jumping very early to conclusions. - rektide 5y ago> Gettr encourages new users to use their Twitter handle in the sign up process, saying that it will allow tweets to be copied over in some cases (we signed up, but this didn’t work for us). neat. probably won't fly but this is a great case for what ACCESS Act should allow, moving between systems. no comment on gettr itself.
