- erklik 5y agoIt's hot, arid, and just terrible place to live generally. Except in the Lake Eyre Basin and more eastern areas, generally, the soil is utterly infertile. The land has had no mountain building since the Precambrian, and no Glaciation for similarly long periods. That means that this particular piece of land has been undergoing nearly 250mil years of constant weathering, without any renewal. That does make it fairly unique in the world honestly from a geological point of view, but terrible from ensuring people live there point of view.
