- hedora 5y agoWest Texas has plenty[1] of mesquite and cedar bushes, which burn fine. Modern fireplaces have catalytic converters, and are over 90% efficient. They produce basically no smoke, and run unattended for ~ 24 hours. [1] people will pay you to take it away.
- gsk22 5y agoYes, modern wood fireplaces are pretty decent emission-wise when properly operated and maintained (the catalytic converters need replacing after a few seasons). But even at their best, they produce more pollution and particulates than natural gas [1][2]. Gas is cleaner, safer, and easier, so why use wood for a built-from-scratch model town? - jamiek88 5y agoAlso west Texas has lots and lots of natural gas. Most of which is wasted. If you aren’t on the pipeline network it’s not really economical to sell so it’s flared.
