- hollerith 5y agoI regularly find a single household burning wood to be obnoxious to me in certain atmospheric conditions (which are present about .6 of the time in my part of the Bay Area). Vehicles in countries with good air quality simply avoid producing carbon-rich particles (the kind of pollution produced by burning wood or coal) in the first place: their catalytic converters are for other types of pollution (gases).
