Fox’s New Channel Changes the Climate for Weather TV
- ElViajero 5y agoIn Sweden the topic that you can safely talk with strangers about is weather. People feels that it is a safe topic, each person may have their opinion and you can talk about it for as long as you want. (Swedes talk politics, or course, but they want to know you before getting into that matter). I hope that some old weather talk can help to improve the United States coffee discussions.
- thenoblesunfish 5y agoI assume that's universal! (The other thing you can talk about being sports)
- thenoblesunfish 5y agoThat is a brilliantly-worded clickbait headline. I was expecting a salacious story about how Fox News (which is how I misread "Fox's New" - maybe you did too?) has biased presentation of weather data.
- meepmorp 5y ago> That is a brilliantly-worded clickbait headline. I was expecting a salacious story about how Fox News (which is how I misread "Fox's New" - maybe you did too?) I'm not sure you should attribute your misreading to someone else's editorial skill.
- MikeUt 5y agoTheir skill at writing misleading headlines?
- meepmorp 5y agoI understood what the person was saying, I just didn't agree with it.
- thenoblesunfish 5y agoSkill might be going to far, but we do at least know that the NYT A/B tests headlines.
- smt88 5y agoIt is a story about Fox News creating a weather channel. It is likely they will talk about climate change less than The Weather Channel, but we don't know for sure yet. We have at least one clue that the political DNA of Fox News will extend to this new channel: > "Fox Weather will be overseen by Suzanne Scott, the chief executive of Fox News Media, and Sharri Berg, a longtime Fox executive who helped launch Fox News at its inception in 1996."
- zinekeller 5y agoWait, if I read correctly, a streaming service for weather reports? I mean, I know personally that meteorology costs surprisingly a lot of money, and I understand that (at least for now) America has pro bono weather alerts provided by their government (NOAA), but why there's channels (and now, streaming services) specifically caring for weather (aside from the government-operated ones)?
- klondike_ 5y agoNOAA and the NWS provides weather data for most of the country but forecasts aren't easily accessible through their website. Instead, companies like AccuWeather take that data and turn it into forecasts and sell them on to media companies to be plastered with ads. Imo the NWS should just start providing forecasts of its own on its website. I'm sick of having to trawl through ad filled weather websites for a 7 day forecast
- hnburnsy 5y agoNWS Now for Android or mobile.weather.gov (create an app shortcut) will give you NWS weather info with no ads.
- huitzitziltzin 5y agoReally looking forward to the bright future where I can watch Tucker Carlson on Fox Weather blame a heatwave in Seattle on critical race theory and call climate change a BLM-Marxist plot. /s
