Fuck you for planning to partially brick other people’s iPhones. Do you also like to leave USB sticks around that brick computers for ’mischief’ too?

- errantspark 5y agoThe problem is people accepting not having root on things they own. It's absolutely absurd that someone would accept having mission-critical devices without root access. The problem is fake, it shouldn't exist. I don't feel bad because the choice to be in the situation where your phone can be messed in a serious way without an easy way out is 100% self inflicted. Allowing the proliferation of devices that you don't control is FAR FAR FAR worse for society than me bricking some iPhones. If even one person thinks critically about the situation they've allowed themselves to exist in as a result of having their phone bricked by something so silly I consider myself to be doing a moral good. This is hacker news after all.
- olliej 5y ago"I disagree with X, and therefore no one else gets to do X" You're a self righteous asshole. And "hacker" in HN clearly refers to people doing things with their own computers, not people trying to break other people's hardware.
- errantspark 5y agoThat's a gross oversimplification of the problem. I'm sure you wouldn't have to look far to find something you disagree with and work to prevent in order to better our society. The damage to society from users ceding power over technology to companies cannot be underestimated. I understand that literally I am being a self righteous asshole, and I'll own that. If I could hack wifis across the world to broadcast this SSID I would. This is a far far more serious problem than people think.
- Google234 5y agoI hope you don’t ever start thinking that drone based bomb attacks are a “serious problem” for the sake of innocent lives.
