"We have shrunk the reactor to the size of a suitcase"
(from their faq https://electricfusionsystems.com/#FAQ-home https://electricfusionsystems.com/#FAQ-home )
I am wondering, is this crackpot or real ?
- billytetrud 5y agoTime will tell, but it's honestly pretty weird that every other major fusion project has used deuterium tritium reactions when aneutronic reactions have been possible all along. Building bigger and bigger hundred billion dollar reactors all for the same reaction proven to be a pain in the ass seems like the definition of insanity. Why haven't we been experimenting with other reactions like this 40 years ago?
- joak 5y agoActually it is well known: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneutronic_fusion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aneutronic_fusion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_power#Fuels https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fusion_power#Fuels Deuterium + Tritium is the most common fusion reaction to be implemented because it's easiest one, all the others need more energy to initiate.
