This reminds me of the Linux Counter project. When you installed Slackware, you automatically had an e-mail from Patrick Volkerding or Harald Alvestrand asking you to e-mail Harald to explain how you used Linux ("I use Linux at home" / "I use Linux at work" / "I use Linux at school"). This personalized request always felt so warm and casual to me, and I appreciated the thought that Harald Alvestrand cared to know that I, personally, was using Linux.
