I see way too many of the top comments post rosy pictures .. "once I had a comfortable retirement funded ...". I want to point out that this isn't a sure thing for most people (even in software). So pls don't get depressed if you are 40+, don't have laurels from your youth, comfortable savings, or feeling more lost than you have ever been. You are not alone.
