- toomuchtodo 5y agoPut some semen in cryostorage [1] and get a vasectomy. ~$1000 all in, no oopsies, and your tissue quality is preserved at your age of storage (with a small risk of loss of storage over time). The vasectomy alone is only a few hundred bucks (with insurance; without, max cost is $1500) if having kids isn’t your thing, and widely available. I recommend it to everyone who will listen (the cost of raising a child from birth to 18 is $233,610, per child [2]). Median lifetime earnings in the US are $1.7 million [3]. - bedobi 5y agoMale contraceptives are here, they're just on the cusp of being approved for widespread use... but as equality minded as I am, I'm not sure I would pick up on it. They're basically designed to shut you down just like anabolic steroids do, but without the anabolic effect. All the negatives, none of the fun. I'd rather just take anabolic steroids at that point. To be clear, I've never supported any partner of mine to be on the pill either, and I wouldn't take it if I was a woman.
- throwamon 5y agoThere's also Vasalgel, a contraceptive under development since 2010 that is, well, a gel that is inserted in the vase where sperm passes through, and it's supposed to be long-lasting while still reversible. I don't know if it's legit or if it will ever actually work, and I haven't followed their progress, but they have a Twitter and a mailing list. If anyone has summarized info on the state of things, I'd love to know. https://www.parsemus.org/humanhealth/vasalgel/ https://www.parsemus.org/humanhealth/vasalgel/
