Will we gain any (fertile) land when ice melts? I sometimes think of an Antartic Utopia from climate refugees all over the world.
- dredmorbius 5y agoTopsoil accumulates at the rate of about 2.5 cm/century. The rich farming soils of North America and Europe are the end result of 10,000 years of natural formation since the last northern glaciation. Any exposed Antarctic landmass will be naked sterile rock, at high latitudes, lacking any sunlight for much of the year.
