NPR Staff Read the Declaration of Independence
- aww_dang 5y agoThere are people today that understand the problems with judging the past based upon the standards of the present. Even if we allow the hypothetical that NPR is beyond critique today, I wonder what criticisms people 250 years in the future will level against NPR. Yes, the authors of the declaration of independence were flawed. 250 years later, humans are still flawed. The point being that we are living in a culture that allows self-introspection. Thus we can learn from our mistakes and move forward. However, the regressive, navel gazing, self-pitying, often vain, if not condescending, but always divisive and accusatory sense of historical guilt doesn't advance our cause. Instead of tearing down our fore-bearers we should celebrate the framework that set the stage for those advances.
