Anyone interested in seeing cosmic rays visually should check out a cloud chamber. One can be made at home with isopropyl alchol and dry ice. Once you see it, it makes the need for ECC more visceral. Here’s a video of a cloud chamber. The very long straight lines are muons, which are the products of cosmic rays hitting the upper atmosphere.
