- natch 5y agoSpeculation, but they could be gearing up to ruin the software by converting it to a subscription service based model.
- bickeringyokel 5y agoAudacity is great for minor tweaks and such, but I can't imagine in a million years paying a subscription for it
- ergot_vacation 5y ago1. Good people make good thing. 2. Bad people steal good thing. 3. Bad people ruin good thing while trying to make money with it. Tale as old as time.
- DNied 5y ago> 2. Bad people steal good thing. 2. Good people sell good thing to bad people.
- aspaceman 5y ago1. FUD 2. FUD 3. FUD Seriously you add crash reporting to your app and all the idiots who can't read swarm like flies. Reddit and HN actually sell your info, and they're using this for crash reporting. My head hurts so badly.
- aydwi 5y agoWhat a crass remark! First of all, learn how to talk on a public forum without coming out like a total jackass. Second, read the actual text. > Personal Data we collect > Data necessary for law enforcement, litigation and authorities’ requests (if any) They don't disclose exactly what they collect. That is the very definition of shady, and grounds enough for a privacy sensitive user to abandon the software. It's not just "crash reporting" as you proclaim. Moreover, if you think they won't sell it, I quote again from the original announcement (which, if you made the effort to read, would have saved us this conversation) > Who does Audacity share your Personal Data with? > to a potential buyer (and its agents and advisers) in connection with any proposed purchase, merger or acquisition of any part of our business, provided that we inform the buyer it must use your Personal Data only for the purposes disclosed in this Notice;
- jfrunyon 5y agoThat is clearly referring to a buyer of their company and clearly indicates that your data still can't be sold.
- slipframe 5y ago> > 1. Good people make good thing. > 1. FUD "Good people make good things" is 'fear, uncertainty, doubt'? Have you been huffing paint fumes again aspaceman? Try as you might, you'll never get to space that way; all you're doing is killing your braincells (which is probably why your head hurts!)
- Black101 5y agoPrivacy is becoming a thing of the past... everything you touch spies on you and report back to the Government. It is nuts... but it will only get a lot worst, before it gets better. "The Internet of Spying Things"
- Black101 5y ago> but it will only get a lot worst, before it gets better The reason for that is that 99% of people don't care about it today... but they eventually will.
