Teams I've worked with lately use squash merge with the PR summary set to the issue number and issue summary from the issue tracking system. So, there are links to the issue and the PR from both systems if we need to track down why something was done. Seems to work well for us. I personally wouldn't want to see 15 commits to the main branch from one PR regardless of how descriptive the commit messages may be.
