There has already been extensive spending in these areas and what do we have to show for it?
EDIT: While there's many factors that drive crime, crime was lower before the defund movements.
- ceejayoz 5y agoDoes this logic apply to policing, too? > crime was lower before the defund movements Remind me, did anything else happen in 2020 that might have had an impact on crime?
- decremental 5y agoGood point. The rioting encouraged by politicians and the media happened in 2020.
- ceejayoz 5y agoAnything else happen that year?
- slipframe 5y agoInstead of being passive aggressive with this psuedo-scoratic bullshit, why don't you just say outright what you mean? You're talking about covid. A global pandemic is a shitty excuse for these hyper-local phenomena. It's not covid; it's the voting public of San Francisco (and two or three other west coast cities) and the disastrous politicians they elect.
- ceejayoz 5y agoThe crime spike @Justin_K alluded to was national, not hyper-local. https://www.vox.com/22344713/murder-violent-crime-spike-surge-2020-covid-19-coronavirus https://www.vox.com/22344713/murder-violent-crime-spike-surg...
- slipframe 5y agoNice try, but it's not murders and violent crimes that this discussion is about. Murders are not the crimes that 70% of San Franciscans are getting upset about. This degree of neighborhood destroying homelessness, rioting, and organized shoplifting at this scale are local phenomena, not national. These are the crimes that personally impact almost everybody besides the exceptionally privileged in cities like San Francisco and Seattle (were, across the street from me visible through my living-room window, a homeless camp has burned down twice in the past two months. I've lived here for ten year, but enough is enough. I'm getting the hell out of this city, and I'm far from the only one who's fed up with it. But keep on gaslighting, jackass.)
