Most of the algorithms built into common software for converting from one color space to another (especially e.g. RGB to CMYK) are pretty terrible, and even though it’s a tricky problem with no right answer per se, the automatic transformation could be much better. A competent human photoshop user is going to get substantially better results than current algorithms almost every time.
