Where does this learned helplessness come from? You can run for city council in Seattle. Or fund the candidates that you like. This is what citizens can do.

- cwkoss 5y agoI think expecting citizens to pay if they want their government to be accountable may be at the root of this problem... (For the record, I do fund the 3 city council members who are toughest on police accountability. And our city council is moving in the right direction on police accountability - the mayor is the biggest obstacle)
- danielheath 5y agoOne way or another, someone has to pay. Living under a good government isn’t some naturally free good we deserve to be given; we collectively create it, and if you aren’t contributing to that, then like most people, you are freeloading on someone else’s work to make it happen. “I vote” is better than nothing, but less than the minimum average contribution required to make it work.
- bradlys 5y agoSo - like billionaires are just really good citizens then who aren't freeloading at all when they lobby to have their taxes sent to zero? k.
- danielheath 5y agoWeird takeaway from “do your share of the work”.
- netizen-936824 5y agoThe point is, that their 'part of the work' appears to be minimizing any real work or input from them rather than trying for progress.
