I'm in SV.
What a horrible take. Globalization of tech jobs is net positive for the whole world including the US. We're all gonna have more thing made cheaper and faster, isn't that great?
I can see how you can argue it's not the case with some industries, e.g steel and coal (see poverty in Appalachia), because it's hurting those communities. But this is tech, we already have it way too easy.
I say let's double down on the whole WFH thing instead and bring opportunity to people all around the world.
- RestlessMind 5y agoHahaha... for a moment, I thought you were being sarcastic. But in case you are serious, please go and study the decline of manufacturing and the plight of manufacturing workers and how their lives were ruined because of globalization. I certainly don't want that for me. I care for my own comfort first, because no one else is going to.
- nthngtshr 5y agoHence my comment about steel and coal. I get it, globalization is not always great. But like, we're not in the same situation here. Even if it's a totally level playing field you and I will be fine. Do you really think your life is going to be ruined if you take a 30% pay cut? Or do you think it's going to be more than 30%?
- RestlessMind 5y agoI think it will be much more than 30% based on the numbers I am seeing offered to other non-US developers who are equally good.
- ridiculous_lol 5y ago> What a horrible take. Globalization of tech jobs is net positive for the whole world including the US. We're all gonna have more thing made cheaper and faster, isn't that great? That will definitely hinder the progress of local companies who will miss out on good talent.
- nthngtshr 5y agoSure, it's beneficial for some and not beneficial for others. US employers win some US employees lose some Oversees employers lose some Oversees employees win some --- But it's going to be a net positive for the whole world because everybody else wins because they get better products and services at better prices.
- zocoi 5y agoNot true, the net positive is just a hypothesis, in reality they will become bonus and stock grant for the execs
- emodendroket 5y ago> We're all gonna have more thing made cheaper and faster, isn't that great? Not really, if the savings come at our expense.
