- gentleman11 5y agoWhen I look up pictures of Arizona I see cacti and deserts. Lytton is hot but it’s a lot of forests and lakes. Would an equivalent be Arizona getting a severe Canadian winter with 1-2 weeks of -40 ?
- retrac 5y agoMaybe not quite that extreme. Something like a few days or a week with highs like 32 - 38 °C is not that unusual in much of southern Canada, including that part of BC. Still a solid ten degrees hotter than what would be considered very hot normally.
- mnouquet 5y agoSouthern BC is very much a desert and barely sees any snow in winter, yet negative temperature. Source: I have family in Osoyoos.
- elevenoh 5y agoSouthern BC just barely qualifies as a desert (9.8" of annual rain in Osoyoos vs. 10" to qualify as a desert) ;) But yeah Osoyoos is wildly similar in architecture/vibe to parts of AZ/NM.
- Teever 5y ago> Southern BC just barely qualifies as a desert Give it a decade or two?
- hollerith 5y agoSouthern BC leeward of the mountains, that is.
- mnouquet 5y agoOn 10 July 1913, temperatures at the aptly named Furnace Creek area in the California desert reached a blistering 56.7°C (134.1°F). https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/05/move-over-death-valley-these-are-two-hottest-spots-earth#:~:text=Death%20Valley%20holds%20the%20record,C%20(113%C2%B0F) https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/05/move-over-death-vall....
