- RestlessMind 5y agoNope, it's much nicer to maintain your relative power and privilege. Stop being altruistic and learn from Doctors. If you don't fight for your power, it will be snatched from you and no one will care about you. Just ask all the former workers in the manufacturing sector in midwest, whose only available career option now is to work at a Walmart. Do you think it is "nice" for them to compete with a global pool of manufacturing workers? Why should they care about the middle class opportunities in foreign countries when their own life is in peril now?
- neximo64 5y agoUnless you also buy things that are more expensive (not 5% but 2-5x more pricey) simply because they're made in the US your argument holds no weight. You would have the cushey job because of the 'power' for a while. But it has nothing to do with altruism - to win you need to adapt and have the best product or service.
- emodendroket 5y agoNaive to think that's why US wages are high.
- neximo64 5y agoDifference from high wages and good product. There's a reason iPhones aren't made in the US
- emodendroket 5y agoLabor is different from goods. People are absolutely getting different wages for the exact same work in different places.
- ridiculous_lol 5y ago> Stop being altruistic and learn from Doctors. I did not get reference. Can you explain a bit about it?
- emodendroket 5y agoThe AMA is a very effective lobbying group which has made it difficult for people to decrease doctors' wages by advocating restrictions on the number of doctors, making it extremely difficult to convert foreign credentials in medicine into US ones, and so on. They also are largely responsible for killing the earliest efforts at a national healthcare system on the theory that a single payer would use its negotiating power to reduce payments to medical providers.
