I ran into an issue regarding repairing a combo amp for my guitar recently. This brand poorly attached the 1/4th jack so mine broke off but the circuitry was still attached internally. Much like in a motherboard where you hook up the USB ports (that big rectangle shape), it hooked on to maybe a 1x2 inch circuit board. I just needed to replace that. The circuits that connected the actually amp, onboard computer, and speaker were basically in brand new condition.
Know how much it cost to replace the 1x2 little circuit board? $120. Know what the price of the amp new is? $220. The most miniscule and unimportant part of the entire product besides the knobs cost more than half the price of the amp. Do you know why? The manufacturer will only sell the ENTIRE circuit board (meaning the computer and all) along with that little piece that I just need.
That is what I fear will happen with right to repair. It's not actually going to be good, but just really shady. Sure you can repair something, but that part that costs $2 to make in total, yeah that's gonna be $50 because we don't sell that part individually, you need to buy this whole kit. Knowing how America works, I can't imagine any politician is thinking this through thoroughly and it will just be another PITA that won't do anything. I wish I wasn't a jaded American, but I've always been let down from every single government initiative that has occurred in the past 10 years.
