And yet when they limit their new version of Windows specifically to devices that cant have rootkits installed, everyone freaks out.
...maybe they know that people are installing root kits... because they see first hand what the "good" guys are doing routinely.
- MikeUt 5y ago> devices that cant have rootkits installed And jail cells are just very secure apartments. There's always going to be a guard around to let you out, why is everyone freaking out?
- xyzzy123 5y agoIt's not "rootkits" per se that are restricted right? It's unsigned code. Who has access to the signing keys? It is solving the problem of unauthorised rootkits.
- AnimalMuppet 5y agoI see exactly zero connection between preventing rootkits and demanding that I give them my email address.
- xfer 5y agoWho said you can't have rootkits on newer processors? Microsoft signed a bunch of rootkits and that was news last week? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27640553 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27640553
- swiley 5y agoThere was a story just the other day about how Microsoft has been signing rootkits. The new "security measures" don't do crap for malware and just make legitimate uses of the machine (installing software that respects your freedom) harder.
