Slightly offtopic perhaps, but would IPv6 + multicast use substantially lower the cost for ISPs and Content Providers ?
By that same token, wouldn't that be a reason to push IPv6 more into the market place as everybody wins in the end ?
- wmf 15y agoMulticast doesn't (currently) work in the Internet due to router state cost, and is orthogonal from IPv6. In a hypothetical Internet where multicast works and is free, I could see pirates adopting it but anybody who can afford to pay would probably stick with unicast — bandwidth isn't that expensive these days.
