- deadalus 5y agoU.S. Core CPI, which is thought to represent the real rate of inflation consumers experience is up 0.7% since April 2021 and 3.8% since May of 2020. This is the highest jump since 1992.
- CPLX 5y agoYeah but May of 2020 was a pandemic induced deflationary spiral. That's the problem with this methodology.
- mikeyouse 5y agoRight.. if you use March 2020 instead of May 2020, Core CPI has increased 40% less than OP just claimed.. (2.5% vs. 3.8%)
- dragontamer 5y agoAnd yet, our inflation is only 5.3% since 2019 (2.6% yoy) If we go back two years (because 2020 was certainly an abnormal year) and take a look at the trends, things don't seem so bad.
- standardUser 5y agoI'd add that the economy is in a fantastically different place than it was 40 years ago, which is the last time inflation was a serious issue in this country.
