Ask HN: How do you reach out to your users to let them know about updates?

I'm thinking about working on finishing a quick MVP to let users get push notifications of updates as they are pushed out bit by bit. What I'm wondering is, would you use it or stick to some form of newsletter or group chat (if so which one?)?
