Scientists Discover 'Time Cells' in the Brain That Enable 'Mental Time Travel'
- bruce343434 5y agoFrom the headline: you mean memory?
- st_goliath 5y ago> you mean memory? ... archivists hate him oh, and let's not forget: ... what happened next will shock you
- datameta 5y agoBeing aware of the existence of and even experiencing a neurological mechanism does not directly translate into understanding how it actually works. There is still so much we don't understand about how our brain functions. Making a simplified assumption without any verification is not science.
- antiterra 5y agoNo, this is about how temporal information is stored in a memory and also pertains to how the brain can link different memories that happened around a similar time. The suggestion this is the study that ‘discovered’ time cells in human is up for debate, but the headline is not egregiously misleading.
- antiterra 5y agoThis (free to read) study from last year is a lot more concrete in its description than the Vice article. https://www.pnas.org/content/117/45/28463 https://www.pnas.org/content/117/45/28463 This article for kids by the lead author of the study in the parent link is a better popsci article (though not directly about time cells): https://kids.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/frym.2019.00144 https://kids.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/frym.2019.0014...
