100ms of latency just to encode seems a bit high if you have to buffer up a few packets before playback on the other end, plus network latency. For comparison, the Opus codec recommends 20ms packets, and it can be lowered to 5ms. (High-latency voice calls drive me crazy...)

- ksec 5y agoWhich is why I find the whole thing bizarre. We should be R&D and making higher bitrate, 32Kbps+ and 1ms latency speech codec that has much higher quality. Instead they went with ultra low bitrate, 6kbps.. and ultra high latency.
