Life at Google versus Life at Amazon: From Hiring to Firing
- hkai 5y agoPut simply, Amazon is about more conservative values, meritocracy and getting things done. Google is about less structure, more politics, and more creativity.
- cardosof 5y agoIf what you saying is true, in the long run there should be stark differences on business results and pace of incremental and disruptive tech.
- namelessoracle 5y agoWhats the last disruptive tech that Google came out with? Don't they just buy out companies that are doing innovative things at this point?
- throwawaysea 5y agoMaybe I am being simplistic, but the article’s many points basically seem to suggest that Amazon is run well while Google is not, in part because Google can afford to be undisciplined with its high profit margins. The person quoted even plainly says the employees produced by Amazon’s culture are better: > If I were to be hiring, I'd follow Amazon's method and hire ex-Amazonians over Google's, by a significant margin.
- namelessoracle 5y agoRest and vest, and "google doesnt fire people" are both meme's about google. Whether they are true or not is another question. I'm sure Google does fire people but obviously less than Amazon does.
