Then we agree to disagree :) I live in Argentina and we have very little freedom. The economic freedom is basically non-existant (can't buy foreign currency), and [private property is violated](https://www.reddit.com/r/argentina/comments/o6zfxq/usurpaci%C3%B3n_de_terrenos_en_reconquista_santa_fe/ https://www.reddit.com/r/argentina/comments/o6zfxq/usurpaci%...) by the government to buy votes.
- greendude29 5y agoThen you don't know what a totalitarian government is, you can disagree all you want :) Also mixing and matching is not as horrible a thing as you make it sound. Canada is doing it too for the second. Given that a largely white country is also doing it, does that now make you feel better about it?
- senkora 5y agoArgentina is a largely white country: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_of_Argentina https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_of_Argentina I'm not sure what point you're trying to make there.
- int_19h 5y agoThe very fact that you're able to complain about this online, and not get in serious trouble, is evidence that it's not totalitarian. Authoritarian, perhaps.
- SllX 5y agoThat’s a crappy illiberal government, but a better example of a totalitarian government is the PRC: the Party is the highest authority there is, and all matters of society, private, public, spiritual, foreign and domestic (at least as long as you’re of Chinese or Uighur descent) are subordinate to the Party’s interests and considered political.
- rbanffy 5y agoThe Brazilian far-right frequently claims the previous governments, led by a center-left party that’s pretty much social democratic in policies, were communist. What you have in Argentina is a very timid socdem government, at most. We can agree to disagree, but that doesn’t make it totalitarian. That coming from an Argentinian is surprising, because Argentina had a pretty violent US-sponsored dictatorship for quite some time.

We had many dictatorships, all over Latin America. But there is a reason to say that. Sure, people is not disappearing (cough Nisman cough), but they break our constitution and don't give a fuck, like declaring "estado de sitio", I think it's translated "state of siege", because of COVID. Not allowing people free transit (breaking the constitution), arresting protesters, not allowing people to open their businesses, making them go broke. An excessively long quarantine which totally ruined the already poor economy even further. As a business owner you can't even fire people, they won't let you. And don't get me started on union mafias making deals with the government. I mean sure it's not as bad as North Korea but still I would say it's totalitarian.
