Apple is getting more and more user hostile. Fighting against the ability to install software on your own device. Fighting right to repair your own device and abusing the concept of counterfeit products to stop recycling of old device parts. Over the years local music playback has been getting more and more deprioritized. And now it seems to be fighting the idea of an informed consumer market. Apple wants to blame leaks for "misleading" consumer when their own product pages lack things as simple as the actual model of the processor in the laptops they sell. The most expensive pair of headphones sold by them don't support their own lossless streaming music service.
I think the underlying hardware is excellent and for non power users, it's hard to match the convenience of the software. But that doesn't change the reality of what Apple truly prioritizes.
I wonder if Apple is trying to get ahead of a decision that will be very controversial, more than getting rid of the headphone jack was. If the decision leaks early, they won't be able to do damage control before the product comes to the market.
