- necheffa 5y agoIf it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... Linux may not be UNIX, but it is Unix.
- oaiey 5y agoVery nicely said.
- hulitu 5y agoLately it quacks like a goose. And microsoft is embracing it so it may loose its feders
- oaiey 5y agoAnd considering that this article is about evolution, this change in sound should be mentioned What is a duck without feathers and quacking like a goose? A penguin?
- ktm5j 5y agoWell BSD is a true Unix. Personally I feel like it's appropriate that Linux isn't included here.
- DSpinellis 5y agoTue, we trace the evolution of the Unix code along the line that currently is FreeBSD over 50 years. The Linux kernel started its life decades later than Unix and it didn't (initially) share any code with the original Unix code base. Furthermore the GNU and other programs and tools required to form a GNU/Linux distribution have their own separate history, further complicating the picture. Linux's evolution, though shorter, is also interesting, but it is a very different story.
