I’d love to buy a “dumb” tv. How do I do that?
- herbst 5y agoJust buy a cheap smart one and attach a device that fully controls it via hmdi. My bedroom TV boots to Kodi and the original remote is attached as well as a small keyboard. Basically the best solution I found
- luffapi 5y agoI’d be worried that it was still phoning home even when I was on a different input. It’s a good solution if you have to have a smart tv though.
- herbst 5y agoIMO these problems should be solved with a firewall either way. You can never know when they start talking home.
- ViViDboarder 5y agoHow would it do that? You think they’re shipping SIM cards in the TV?
- cvak 5y agoRight! Like Nvidia Shield! wait
- meowster 5y agoWalmart sells Sceptre brand TVs. They make 4K dumb TVs up to 75".
- luffapi 5y agoThank you. This looks like exactly what I wanted.
- Ansil849 5y agoYou perform research to find televisions that either do not have internet capability, or you unscrew your back panel and remove said internet capability. The fact that you need to ask online how to buy a dumb tv, instead of being able to do so yourself, is depressing.
- luffapi 5y agoSomeone already gave me a useful tip, so I’m glad I asked! What’s the point of commenting if not to learn new things? We also all benefit from having a conversation about alternatives to Android TV on this thread.
- Ansil849 5y agoDon't get me wrong, I'm glad you got some tips, and here's another site with some options: https://pointerclicker.com/best-dumb-tv/ https://pointerclicker.com/best-dumb-tv/ My comment to your post was just a general observation that I find it depressing we are at this point in our culture where people need to ask for help to find electronics which do not surveil them.
- yuters 5y agoI have searched far and wide last year for a dumb tv and couldn't find one. Like another said there's the Sceptre TVs, I've stumbled upon it earlier this year with this article: https://frame.work/ca/en/blog/in-defense-of-dumb-tvs https://frame.work/ca/en/blog/in-defense-of-dumb-tvs I've even started to look into buying just a big monitor and an external tv tuner.
- relax88 5y agoThe words you’re looking for are “hospitality” and “commercial display” The hospitality versions will be cheaper than commercial (commercial displays are designed to last longer with continuous operation).
