The Czech Republic has one of the highest fertility rebounds ever documented
- WalterGR 5y agoI trust everything I read on Twitter.
- gedy 5y ago> "Most notably, Czechia's approach to childcare has been described as "re-familisation," i.e. focusing on supporting family- and community-based care rather than childcare centers per se." I think this is important point as a lot of the hot air from politicians in US is just about free or subsidized day care - but many/most of the people I know don't actually want to put their kids in day care at all, and would rather "stay home" with them. They just feel forced to with housing costs, etc. and not because of their "career".
- michalu 5y agoThis doesn't have that much to do with the reasons proposed in the tweet. It's is simply an indirect result of past socialist policy. In 1970s the puppet president Husak started giving free flats and cars to young families. In 1980s you had a huge fertility boom, entire suburbs were built up just for young families (see Husak children). I remember streets being overcrowded with children in 1990s. With depression in 1990s fertility rates started to plumet. For the next 20 years nobody was having children and now that generation from 1980s/1990s is about 30+ and all are settling down and having children (although a bit later than previous generation).
