This is an absolutely ridiculous response. Even if we've come to reason that tech companies can not be trusted to be ethical with our data it's a false equivalency to compare them to a criminal organization. I don't think it's unreasonable for OP to use any application and not expect this misuse of their data. And it's definitely not their fault.
