This has never happened before and could seriously ruin the brand.
[EDIT: widespread, very public data loss with a remote cause, as a result of a firmware vulnerability in a product whose job is to store data]
- nebula8804 5y agoWhat I am seeing is future deep discounts on WD Drives.
- CaptainZapp 5y agoMaybe. But I'm not sure if there are any takers. My data is much more important than a 50$ rebate on a storage device.
- xvector 5y agoI hope it ruins the brand. This sort of incompetence and gross negligence ought to cripple companies.
- CrendKing 5y agoIf WD is gone, are you going to buy drives from Seagate, seriously? I've had 3 hard drives from Seagate just fail by itself before, 0 from WD so far. HGST used to be good, but sold to WD. I have no experience with Toshiba, but they have less product diversity and higher price.

- isatty 5y agoSince we’re being anecdotal here, I’ve > 5 seagate drives, one that’s more than 12 years old that hasn’t failed on me.
- SOMA_BOFH 5y agothis will be forgotten in six months.
- throwawayboise 5y agoMost people will never hear about it.
