Obvious stupid uses of work laptops are beyond the pale, but I can see why someone would check their gmail from a work laptop (I'm posting this on my work laptop while my code compiles). But one thing I found which is great is setting up my work and personal laptops next to each other on a laptop holder and doing everything through external monitors.
