Ask HN: What do you use to draw out systems/architectures before building?

Okay this isn't for everyone but what do people recommend for drawing out systems (from databases to architecture) and technical decisions before starting a project. Currently I use pen & paper to start but this inevitably gets lost and becomes a pain to update as I change things. I'm also aware that for projects involving more than one person this isn't ideal. JIRA/Confluence was the go-to at work with some draw.io diagrams/plugins and custom vector graphics from Inkscape/Sketch/Affinity. What do you do and what do you recommend?
