Complaints against mobile payment apps surge 300% as consumers get scammed
- elmerfud 5y agoWhile they only listed one scam as an example of having the performer ripped off, my experience is the scam works in the other direction usually. Someone asks me to pay in advance for something with Cash App, Venmo or others and they're unwilling to meet in person to sign a contract it's likely a scam. While all these companies pretend they investigate fraud it's really just a gamble because ultimately it's two people in dispute with no real agreement. The payment companies don't get paid on refunds so guess which way they normally decide. They're trying to move the handshake deal in to the digital age but haven't solved the problem that anonymity breeds dishonesty.
