Climate change anxiety: Young people 'feel hopeless'
- h2odragon 5y agoI recall, in 1989, being earnestly told that the Greenhouse Effect was going to kill half of humanity before 2000. We didn't care because we knew we were going to die in a nuclear war, just as our parents and grandparents believed. Judgement Day has been imminent for thousands of years in one form or another.
- jfengel 5y agoSo, because of what some uninformed person told you three decades ago, you're going to disbelieve what actual scientists are telling you today? No serious climate scientist would have told you in 1989 that anything was going to happen by 2000. They would have shown you graphs that look a lot like the graphs they show you today. Just as today, they didn't predict "half of humanity" dead. They predicted a lot of refugees, a lot of changes in agriculture, and a lot of expensive weather events. If you'd rather base it off what one person told you back then, go ahead. But don't tell me it's for any reason other than petulance to get back at that person.
