That is wishful thinking. There are plenty of examples of giant corporations existing even when their customers dislike them or their products. I'm confident you could think of a few.
- 9wzYQbTYsAIc 5y ago> That is wishful thinking. No, it’s pretty basic capitalist market economic theory. The invisible hand of the market doesn’t work at an acceptable pace for some issues, but the theory is likely sound on the evolutionary scale of time.
- passivate 5y agoIt might be applicable in select situations - but I don't agree that its some kind of universal law. I view it as an opinion.
- 9wzYQbTYsAIc 5y agoMay I remind you that if one is to treat economics as a science, then market theory is more than just opinion. Opinions lead to hypothesis which lead to theories which lead to laws.
- passivate 5y agoI suppose myperspective of what constitutes laws/theories is skewed after working in science/biotech. I'll let you have the last word, have a nice day.
- 9wzYQbTYsAIc 5y agoWhy thank you - my last word is that having been through four year programs for two sciences, I can understand your sentiment that the general lay public and even the general non-lay public have misconceptions about what a theory is and what a hypothesis is.
- simonh 5y agoSure, but that’s not the situation here. iPhone user satisfaction is crazy, off the charts high. I believe App Store stewardship is one of the reasons why.
- passivate 5y agoI didn't know the numbers, but what I found when I googled it, is all top phones have comparable scores. Maybe you can expand on your opinion or link to some credible sources? https://www.theacsi.org/acsi-benchmarks/benchmarks-by-brand/benchmarks-for-smartphones https://www.theacsi.org/acsi-benchmarks/benchmarks-by-brand/...
- 9wzYQbTYsAIc 5y agoApparently in 2015, iOS is where consumers moved to, not where they moved from. https://www.consumerreports.org/smartphones/android-or-iphone-what-kind-of-person-are-you/ https://www.consumerreports.org/smartphones/android-or-iphon...
- mthoms 5y agoSure, but the parent linked a May 2021 study that shows pretty consistent satisfaction ratings across Android/iPhone.
- 9wzYQbTYsAIc 5y agoCould be a measurement artifact: maybe people are just consistently satisfied with phones, period. Also, the 2021 data being referenced is comparing phone hardware, not ecosystems.
- mthoms 5y agoEither study could be a "measurement artifact" - what does that even mean? >Also, the 2021 data being referenced is comparing phone hardware, not ecosystems. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere so I'm going to ask for a citation. It appears to me that the study asked for an overall impression.
