Just a semantics thing, but I do think it's important to be able to distinguish between oppression from public laws and oppression from public mobs. IMO, a "witch hunt" is denoted by the fact that everything is decided by "mob justice." No court it involved, and basically a bunch of angry people looking to take their insecurities out are the medium. On the other hand, having laws which oppress you falls much more into the "oppression" category.
