Gartner: 51% of global knowledge workers will be remote by the end of 2021
- tech-historian 5y agoI'm not sure why this is an interesting stat. I'd argue far more than 51% of global knowledge workers are working remote right now, and have been since the start of the pandemic.
- josefresco 5y agoI had to look up Knowledge Worker: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_worker https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_worker It seems ... mushy. Is this an accepted categorization? This is the first time I've heard it, and I've been a pro tech dude for 20+ years.
- aaron-santos 5y agoI can see how it would be useful when talking about social reproduction theory, but I would still tend to favor PMC in those conversations.
- starkd 5y agoIt looks like knowledge worker is more than just IT and software. As the wiki says, it encompasses all those "who think for a living". Perhaps a little condescending to suggest that people that can't work from home don't think for al living, but I get the point.
- EricE 5y ago"It seems ... mushy" Welcome to Gartner corporate speak! Consider yourself lucky that such terminology is foreign to you.

- cyberbanjo 5y agoI first encountered the term in Peter Druckers "Managing Oneself" and a cursory Google search indicated he coined it. Similar term "Knowledge economy". https://medium.com/@leenasn/managing-oneself-book-summary-4e592909e5db https://medium.com/@leenasn/managing-oneself-book-summary-4e...
- nathanaldensr 5y agoThis will drive PC and tablet shipments to over 500 million units Only if, you know, chips are available.
- rightbyte 5y agoI am not sure why remote work would drive demand for tablets. I prefer desktops and I find the move to laptops in corporations as quite sad and wasteful since they have to be replaced so ofent. Maybe home offices will make desktops more common.
- SlipperySlope 5y agoMany, like me, run dual monitors from the laptop with wireless keyboard and mouse in the home office. Laptop itself gets no wear.
- starkd 5y agoI guess tablets allow you to respond if you aren't at your desk.
