My two cents....
Bitcoin is unique in that compared to all other cryptocurrencies it doesn't need to justify its existence based on its performance and value proposition compared to itself. In other words, if you look at an altcoin like Ethereum, its value proposition is in decentralized apps and smart contracts, something Bitcoin can't do. That being the case, you have actual metrics you can judge the platform's performance against. Litecoin is basically Bitcoin with a few enhancements, but its basically 'silver' to Bitcoin's 'gold'. You can never escape the comparison to Bitcoin. I can cite further examples, but the point is that altcoins justify their existence in ways that Bitcoin does not need to prove. Bitcoin "is what it is" at this point. To quote God... "I am that I am".
I know this won't satisfy people who think Bitcoin's value proposition is bogus. But I hope it sheds some light on how Bitcoin compares to everything else in the space.

- meowkit 5y agoIts naive to think there will be a single “winner” who will “eat the space”. Cryptos have different design decisions at the base layer, and people are going to diversify. Supporting things like smart contracts is just one feature upgrade to stay competitive.
