Interviewing is a pain in the arse. It's time consuming, especially in tech with "coding challenges" and other crap, its difficult to bother applying for a job every two weeks when in full time employment. One time when i was out of a job, I actually had time to jump through all the nonsense hoops. Retail work is likely a bit easier in terms of the interview process, but given that it is likely less skilled work, you will be up against more competition.
