Assuming we can just confiscate every last penny of every billionaire's wealth instantly we would have at best 5 trillion. That is less than the 6.5 trillion the federal government spent in 2021. Not even enough for 1 year of operations.
So fine, take all the privately held wealth. That amounts to 94 trillion. Round it to 100. So we can run the federal government for ~20 years? Or we can give everyone 300k ?
Affordability is certainly a problem. However a magic money moving wand doesn't seem to do anything to fix it. The problems are deeper than that. The author's call to get more involved in constructing sustainable solutions and focusing government investments on community building versus war mongering I can get behind every day of the week. The eat the rich sentiment leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
