Generally, POST is to create a new entity, while PUT is to fully update an existing entity. PATCH is used for partial updates, if necessary in a use case.

- seph-reed 5y agoI've read this in most of the StackO threads I found on it. And I love the idea of it. But it kind of feels like the fact that so many people have to explain it and nothing really enforces it except code reviews is... I dunno. It's like when someone has big ideas about how things are gonna go, but then reality ends up taking some other opportunity path.
