So... UWP is a tenbagger: It got 10x slower in 5 years.
I always like to remind folks that it takes longer to open calculator - or windows terminal - than to open excel.
- _trampeltier 5y agoSpecial since the last update, calc does need a long long time, even on a fast notebook. An app like calc should be open just instant. Even just a second is way to long on fast and modern hardware.
- vel0city 5y agocalc.exe on Win10 2004 loads way faster than Excel on my machine, its not even close. cmd.exe and powershell.exe are also way faster than Excel. Terminal is a smidge faster than Excel but a hair slower than either cmd.exe or powershell.exe.
- siproprio 5y agoThere's a calculator discussion now that calc is open source: https://github.com/microsoft/calculator/issues/209 https://github.com/microsoft/calculator/issues/209 All other UWP apps that do not get GitHub attention are 100x worse. Microsoft Photos, for instance...
- vel0city 5y agoMicrosoft Photos also loads noticeably faster than Excel for me. Mail (the default Windows app) also loads faster than Excel. Edge loads faster than Excel.
